Different uses of used to

Whether to use  'used to drive 'or 'used to driving' is often confusing .

1.When we speak about a past habit we have to use 'used to ......+ verb  '.

I used to climb   trees when  I was 10 years old.

2.When we speak about learning a new habit and about getting accustomed to it we use get used to +verb +ing.

I had to get used to climbing   trees when  I began doing research on cashewnut trees.

am /is /are/was /were+ getting +  used to +      .............?......(  verb ?  / verb+ing ?)

Answer :
